Announcing Version 1.0 of the Ruboss Framework!

Summary:

  • Flex = Free, AIR = $499
  • $100 off in July with “thanks_early_adopters” coupon code
  • buy it at http://ruboss.com/store/

I’m really proud to announce that version 1.0 of the Ruboss Framework is now released!

As described at http://ruboss.com/licensing/, it’s dual-licensed under the GPL v3 and a commercial license.

Briefly, this means that it’s free for in-browser Flex development, but if you want to use it for AIR development you need to buy a commercial license or release your AIR application source code under a GPL-compatible Open Source license. (If your legal department doesn’t like you using GPL’d code for in-browser Flex apps, we’re more than happy to sell you a commercial license – it covers in-browser Flex apps too.)

You can buy licenses at http://ruboss.com/store/.  The commercial license prices are (in USD):

Number of Licenses Purchased
Cost per License
1 $499
2-5 $399
6-10 $349
11+ $299

For the month of July only, use the coupon code “thanks_early_adopters” and get $100 off. We are really grateful for the support so far, and we know the documentation situation is a little sparse right now. So, this is our way of not only saying thanks but also funding the documentation effort.

(For group licenses, use the coupon code “thanks_early_adopters20″ to get 20% off, which is better for multiple licenses.)

This is a developer license: there are NO deployment costs.

We feel this is a fair pricing structure that should be attractive to individual consultants, small startups and larger companies. We have worked very hard on the Ruboss Framework, and buying licenses directly funds its future development.

This is just the beginning of the Ruboss Framework story. Next up, we’re going to add Merb integration.

Our upgrade policy is simple:
Commercial licenses get all minor versions (e.g. 1.1, 1.2) free, and get all subsequent major versions (e.g. 2.0, 3.0) for 50% off.

So, please feel free to…

Thanks,
Peter Armstrong

P.S. Now that we’ve shipped 1.0, we’ll get back to work on the free documentation and the Ruboss book (Enterprise Flexible Rails, at http://manning.com/armstrong2/, which is the definitive Ruboss tutorial).  Don’t worry, we’re going to devote a ton of time to producing free documentation, some of which will be used as the basis of the content in Enterprise Flexible Rails.  (The job of the Ruboss Framework is not to sell Enterprise Flexible Rails; it’s the job of Enterprise Flexible Rails to sell the Ruboss Framework.)
